We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our dynamic IT team in this pivotal role. Responsibilities
- Database Architecture and Design: Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement robust database solutions aligned with evolving organizational needs. Evaluate and recommend new database technologies, upgrades, or enhancements for optimal performance and security.
- Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Proactively monitor database performance using industry-standard tools. Identify and troubleshoot bottlenecks, conduct performance tuning, and optimize query execution.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security protocols in compliance with financial industry regulations (e.g. PCIDSS, SOX ). Manage user access and permissions, conduct regular security audits, and develop mitigation strategies against potential threats.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Design and implement comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies. Test plans regularly to ensure data recoverability in case of system failures or disruptions.
- Data Integrity: Maintain the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data within our financial databases. Develop data quality checks and validation procedures.
- Capacity Planning: Forecast future resource requirements and storage needs for databases based on business growth projections and industry trends.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide high-level technical support for internal users and applications interacting with databases. Diagnose and resolve complex database performance or access issues in a timely manner.
- Collaboration and Mentoring: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of databases with the broader technological infrastructure. Mentor and guide junior database administrators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of proven experience as a Database Administrator in a financial services environment or one with similarly rigorous security and compliance requirements.
- In-depth expertise in one or more major database technologies (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Proficiency in performance tuning, database modeling, and query optimization.
- Strong understanding of database security best practices, access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Familiarity with financial industry regulations and compliance standards is highly advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Desired Skills & Certifications
- Cloud database administration: Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Database Certifications: Relevant vendor certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator)
- Scripting: (e.g., Python, Bash) familiarity with automation tasks.
- Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Spark, etc.)
